The City of Eunice has scheduled a celebration of its 125th anniversary on Sept. 14 with a day full of music and activities.
At a meeting Tuesday, organizers began the final round of planning for the day-long event that includes the unveiling of a Clovis Crawfish statue.
Alderwoman Connie Thibodeaux said, “We will have a fabulous day. I’m hoping for about 1,500 people at least.”
And Mayor Scott Fontenot said, “This is a great way to celebrate our town. It is drawing close so if you want to participate or join the festivities mark your calendar now.
“It is going to be a fun day.”
Typical for a Eunice celebration the day is fully scheduled with music.
The music lineup is:
10 a.m. to noon — Fred Charlie & Friends on Park Avenue;
1 to 3 p.m. Kyle Huval on Park Avenue;
4 to 6 p.m. Geno Delafosse on Park Avenue; and
6 to 8 p.m. Pine Leaf Boys in the Liberty Theater.
Tickets to the Pine Leaf Boys concert will be $20 per person.
Also planned beginning at 6 p.m. is tailgate party on South 2nd Street for the LSU game. A large-screen television will be set up for the tailgate party.
At Tuesday’s meeting it was noted the event schedule may change by the time the birthday party arrives.
A boudin-eating contest may or may not take place.
Thibodeaux has led fundraising for the event, which continues.
Lapel pins featuring Eunice Pharr Duson are for sale at the mayor’s office for $5 each. The pins will be for sale at the celebration.
Places on a plaque to accompany the Clovis Crawfish statue are still being sold at $500 each, Thibodeaux said.
The statue will be placed in front of the Eunice Depot Musuem on South CC Duson Street.
One of the fundraisers is a dice game. For a $1 donation the donor can roll six dice and if they land spelling “Eunice” it is a $12,500 win. Ticket sales will be limited to 750.
