Earlier this week, Cleco awarded Empowering the Community for Excellence (STCFE) $5,000 in support of its free tutoring program offered to elementary students in Crowley.
“Cleco is a proud supporter of Empowering the Community for Excellence,” said Bill Fontenot, interim Cleco Power CEO. “We are true believers that, when businesses get involved in educating our youth, we help strengthen our communties.”
“This program is very important for the academic success of so many low-income students in our community,” said Audry Spencer, ETCFE director. “This past school year, we successfully tutored over 100 students in grades first through fifth at Ross, South Crowley and North Crowley elementary schools.
“In language arts, 70 percent of students advanced at least one level on the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) and in math, 90 percent were successful in advancing at least one level on AIMSWEB.”
Cleco has a long history of philanthropic involvement across its 24-parish service territory. In 2017, Cleco contributed nearly $1 million to non-profit organizations across the state.
“Cleco is honored to play a small role in the important work being done by ETCFE,” said Fontenot.
