The 34th annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffeé Cook-off is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Northwest Pavilion on Samuel Drive.
The family-oriented event offers étouffeé from a variety of chefs with crews serving from decorative booths.
Admission, parking and live music is free.
The event was created to showcase the crawfish industry in Eunice.
The bands begin performing at 10 a.m. and the winners are announced at about 3:30 p.m.
Teams compete in three categories: Amateur, Professional and Club/Organization. Teams also vie for People’s Choice and the Best Decorated Booth.
Once the judges have their samples from the booths, the public can buy the crawfish etouffee directly from the participants. Participants can also cook and sell other food items in addition to their crawfish étouffeé.
The Eunice Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Cook-off, which is its major fundraiser for the year.
Jacob Bergeron, Chamber president, said the Cook-off is major source for the Chamber’s scholarship fund.
But the Cook-off is major source of fun for the community in something of rite of spring.
“People always look forward to seeing who competes,” Bergergon said.
“There is a variety of different étouffeés people cook with different tastes and secret ingredients,” he said.
The Cook-off is a great “just being out there with everyone,” Bergeron said.
Sunday’s bad lineup is Jamie Bergeron and Kickin Cajuns; Troy LeJeune & Cajun Revue; and Jason Frey & Lagniappe.
A pre-Cook-off event is held at The Barn at Lakeview Park & Beach, 1717 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Eunice, featuring Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie.
