Eunice City Marshal Terry J. Darbonne is a candidate for re-election in the Nov. 3 primary.
A Eunice native and 1982 graduate of Eunice High School, Darbonne is the son of the late Howard and Agnes (Guidry) Darbonne. He has two children, Nicholas and Amber Darbonne.
He served as a full time police officer with Eunice Police Department from 1983-1989 but felt he needed to resign due to insufficient pay to financially support his family. Darbonne did not leave law enforcement completely as he remained a reserve officer from 1996-1999.
In 1999, he was offered a full-time position as a deputy with then City Marshal Mickey Guillory’s Office. During his time serving under Guillory, he was promoted to the position of chief deputy of the Eunice City Marshal’s Office — until Mr. Mickey’s win as a state representative, at which time Darbonne was assigned the position of marshal in 2003; and has since been elected for three consecutive terms as City of Eunice and Ward 6 city marshal.
Darbonne has served as state president and currently serving as district vice-president of the Louisiana City Marshal’s and City Constable’s Association. He is the 2017-2018 VFW Post 8971 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, a member of the Eunice High Booster Club, member of the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree Committee, member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Eunice. Darbonne has also served over 25 years with the Eunice Fireman’s Association in the capacity of volunteer fire chief, president, and Board member. He is a lifetime member and was also voted Fireman of the Year on numerous occasions. Darbonne has created a Safe Free Zone, which is under 24-hour video surveillance, in front of Eunice City Hall for the safe exchange of any items purchased or the safe exchange of children between parents.
