Darbonne fends off challengers to win reelection

Eunice City and Ward 6 Marshal Terry Darbonne won a fourth term by defeating two challengers in Tuesday’s election.
Darbonne won 53% — 2,805 votes— of the 5,244 votes cast in the Ward 6 election.
The results are unofficial from the secretary of state’s website.
Marcus Bergeron, a former deputy in the marshal’s office, ran second with 27% of the vote. Bergeron is a contracted worker with the state Department of Transportation and Development as a map operator motor assistance patrol.
Coming in third was Gerald Watley with 19% of the vote. Watley works for the Eunice city street department.
The unofficial turnout in the marshal’s election was 59.7%.
Darbonne served as a Eunice Police officer from 1983 to 1989 and was a reserve officer from 1996 to 1999.
In 1999, he became a deputy under Marshal Mickey Guillory. He eventually served as chief deputy.
Darbonne became marshal in 2003.
Darbonne has served as state president and currently serving as district vice-president of the Louisiana City Marshal’s and City Constable’s Association. He is the 2017-2018 VFW Post 8971 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, a member of the Eunice High Booster Club, member of the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree Committee, member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Eunice. Darbonne has also served over 25 years with the Eunice Fireman’s Association in the capacity of volunteer fire chief, president, and Board member. He is a lifetime member and was also voted Fireman of the Year on numerous occasions. Darbonne has created a Safe Free Zone, which is under 24-hour video surveillance, in front of Eunice City Hall for the safe exchange of any items purchased or the safe exchange of children between parents.
