DeVillier is unopposed for 2nd term

Pavich, Edwards, Clavier re-elected without opposition

Qualifying ended Thursday with State Rep. Phillip DeVillier going unchallenged for a second term as the District 41 legislator.
The district includes Eunice and much of rural Acadia Parish.
Also unopposed were Dr. Russell Pavich of Eunice for St. Landry Parish coroner; Parish Council members Jimmie Edwards, District 12, and Coby Clavier, District 13.
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson was unopposed for a second term.
Sheriff’s races in St. Landry and Evangeline parishes ended with multiple candidates.
Incumbent St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz faces Paul Dicapo, Washington; “Carl” Hardy, Opelousas; and Lawrence “Gum” Richard, Opelousas.
Evangeline Parish Sheriff Eddie Soileau did not qualify leaving the field open for seven candidates. They are Brian Ardoin, Ville Platte; Joseph “Joe” Brady, Ville Platte; Dirk Deville, Ville Platte; Jamie M. Fontenot, Basile; Michael Kevin Fontenot, St. Landry; Charles R. Guillory, Ville Platte; Neal Lartigue, Ville Platte.
Two-term incumbent St. Landry Parish President W.K. “Bill” Fontenot faces four challengers. They are Tanisha Bellard Wiltz, Opelousas; Ken Marks, Port Barre; Donald “Don” Menard, Sunset; and Danny J. Richard, Opelousas.
Qualifying for the Oct. 12 election ended at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Sept. 11.
The deadline to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System is Sept. 21.
Early voting is Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 (except Sept. 29) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The deadline to request an absentee by mail ballot is Oct. 8 by 4:30 p.m.
The runoff election is scheduled Nov. 16.
