Early voting numbers surprise registrar

St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Cheryl Milburn said Friday morning that she was surprised by the early voting turnout.
“We are getting ... almost 150 a day and that’s great for a tax election,” she said. “I did not think it would be that great.”
By the close of voting Thursday, 1,198 people have voted in the March 24 election.
Included in the court are 81 votes cast at the Eunice Municipal Complex.
Voting was quiet Friday morning at the Eunice poll, but Milburn said she was pleased with the turnout.
Early voting ended at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Heading the ballot items are two parishwide propositions are on the St. Landry Parish ballots. They are a 11.3-mill, 10-year property tax school pay raises and a 12.1-mill, 20-year property tax for school improvements.
Also on the ballot is a 10-mill, five-year property tax for Fire District 3 and a 10-mill, 10-year tax for Coulee Croche Fire Protection District 4.
In Acadia Parish, items on the ballot are a sales tax proposition in Duson, Fire Protection 3 propositions.
