Evangeline Parish School District employees can look forward to receiving their 13th check on November 17, 2017.
During the Evangeline Parish School Board meeting on Wednesday, Chief Financial Officer Amy LaFleur said that she was “very very happy to announce” that full time personnel will receive $3,997.53 while full time support personnel will receive a check for $1,798.89.
According to LaFleur, the amount of this year’s 13th check “for full time personnel is $750.29 more than last year and $374.63 more for full time support personnel.”
The money used to give educators and support personnel this bonus each year comes from the excess sales tax money that the school district has collected.
In reference to the amount that EPSB employees will receive this year, Superintendent of School’s Darwan Lazard said, “I want to thank the public and all of our employees for shopping local; and I want to encourage them to continue to shop locally because that is what contributes to this check.”
In addition to this announcement, at the meeting, the board was given an update on two projects going on in the parish.
One project will involve replacing the first level hallway floors at Bayou Chicot Elementary, while the other will consist of installing new gymnasium floor at Mamou High.
Architect Mike Holt shared that he has completed the design documents, which he said means they “are ready to go to the bidding process.”
However, he requested that the board hold off on bidding the jobs out until closer to the end of the school year.
Holt said, “I think it would be best to put off bidding and construction on these projects until students are out of school. The reason why is because if we wait until the summer, I know there will be plenty of time to finish the projects before school starts.”
The BCE project will entail replacing the floor in the hallway on the first floor, which was mandated by the fire marshal. The school board was given 18 months by the fire marshal to have the BCE floors replaced.
At MHS, the project will consist of replacing the floors in the school’s gymnasium as well as raising the floor to a level that would prevent future flooding.
The school board’s next bi-monthly meeting is set for November 15th beginning at 6:00 p.m.
