With the city of Eunice experiencing an increased number of people displaced from Hurricane Laura, and some are staying in the city, there has been an increase in the volume of food distributed at the Eunice Food Bank.
Mary Ann Guillory, director at the food bank, said, “Since Friday (Aug. 28), I have more families coming by for food, most of the people are from the Lake Charles area. I have given items to at least 15 or 20 more families since Friday.”
Guillory said she has also been trying to find homes for families that have chosen to stay in Eunice. Guillory added, “Some of these families from Lake Charles routed here to Eunice because they have family members that live here. I have some that I have already signed up as our regular clients to receive food.”
The Eunice Food Bank is currently reaching out to help others as well. Guillory added, “None of us want to go hungry, and certainly not these people that are without homes, food, water and shelter. This community has always come through for us. Let’s do our part and help our neighbors.”
Guillory will be accepting donations of all food items, including non-perishable food items, rice, sugar, beans, canned meat, mac and cheese dinners, Jiffy mixes, boxed meals, spaghetti, diapers, baby products, baby wipes, toiletries, and more. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
One can donate at the food bank location. The Eunice Food Bank is located at 2101 West Ash, directly behind the Department of Motor’s Vehicle building, and its phone number is 457-7541 or call 337-305-0876. The Food Bank is opened to the public from 9 a.m. until noon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
