The annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive is set for 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 food bank, 251 W. Park Ave., Eunice.
Director Mary Ann Guillory says the Eunice Food Bank is in dire need of everything.
Some families are going through tough times, and Guillory added, “There is still some unemployed and others that are directly hit by the government. There are a lot of food stamp cuts. Some families have no means of getting food stamps, because of social media, no computer to get to the site and qualify. Some families have limited phone minutes to make calls for assistance. Other families have limitation on traveling to get to Opelousas. Some people are in desperation.”
Guillory and Deacon David Guillory, president of the Greater Eunice Ministerial Alliance (GEMA), agree “Love is the Key,” and said, “Eunice is a great community that gives to others, and has proved over and over again to give to others in need.”
Last year’s drive was a success, Eunice community collected eight tons.
What food items are needed? “Everything,” said Guillory.
One can donate canned goods of every kind, corn, peas, yams, etc., toiletries of every kind, diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergents, dish detergents, soaps, toothpaste, deodorants, staples-rice, flour, dried beans, pastas, sugar, coffee, tuna fish, noodles, cereals, jiffy corn mixes, juice, macaroni and cheese in boxes.
Monetary donations are accepted as well.
Guillory is also in need of volunteers and plastic grocery bags.
If you cannot make the annual food drive date, don’t worry, the Eunice Food Bank will accept donations year round.
“We are here to serve those who are in need. Feel free to come by the food bank,” said Guillory.
The Eunice Food Bank days and hours include, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. until noon.
The Eunice Food Bank helps to serve 250 families, on the average, per month. Guillory said, “Recently we have gained an additional 10 new members.”
