Donations nearly doubled at the Eunice Food Bank’s annual food drive held Thursday, according to Mary Ann Guillory, director.
Volunteers helped greet, meet and unload items from vehicles. Volunteers weighed in food items, and others inside the food bank sorting food and placed their stock.
Guillory reported Friday that 6.5 tons of food was collected on Thursday at the end of the annual food drive. Last year, Guillory reported 3 .5 tons donated on the day of the annual food drive.
Guillory expects more food items to come in. “I do receive a lot more during the course of this week and actually most of the month. I’m expecting Eunice schools, clubs and organizations, and others to drop off as they usually do each year,” she said.
Guillory is grateful for all those who donated and those who volunteered their time during the drive.
Donors can still give at the Eunice Food Bank, at 2101 W. Ash Ave., directly behind the DMV, from 9 a.m. until noon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Monetary donations are accepted as well.
