The Eunice Little Mardi Gras run and parade is scheduled for Sunday. The run will begin at Eunice Recreation Complex at Sittig Road, 461 Sittig, in Eunice. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the fee is $15 per child, and a trailer registration is $10.
This year’s Little Mardi Gras coordinator is Benjamin Fontenot. Fontenot said a driver must provide a picture valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. “All this can be done on the website at Eunicerec.com. If you do not have an account set up you will have to register first,” said Fontenot.
On Sunday, the Eunice Recreation gates will open at 7 a.m. to line up registered trailers. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the fee $15 a kid and cash only.
Trailers are limited to 70. Ages for children are up to 15 years. Traditional costumes are a must.
There will be chicken chases for kids. Fontenot added, “We will have four chicken chases. The first one at the Eunice Rec just before run leaves at 9 a.m., the second one will be at the ball field at the Fairgrounds and South 12th Street, and a third one will be at OakLane Nursing Home in the field at Norht 12th and Magnolia. The fourth chicken chase will be at the Harris Park field.
Lunch will be provided for kids at noon at the Eunice Recreation complex.
Fontenot is in need of volunteers. Fontenot added, “I will need help providing lunches and handing them out. A child must have a bracelet on to participate in the chicken chasing and lunch.”
The Mardi Gras run will conclude with a 3 p.m. parade from North 2nd Street and will conclude at the Fairgrounds.
