The following are from the October 1996 files of The Eunice News.
A building permit for about 40 low-income apartments was issued for a site at 1450 West Maple Avenue near the old Jantzen building. The project was named Sweetridge Apartments.
Cajun musician Nathan Abshire’s accordion was to go on display at the Cajun French Music Association’s Hall of Fame in Eunice. Abshire died in 1981 at Basile.
Winn Dixie was celebrating the grand opening of its “Marketplace” on Oct. 3. Manager Norwood Lejeune said the store had expanded from 41,000 square feet to 52,000 square feet. “The just can’t believe that there is a store this size and nature in a country place like Eunice,’ Lejeune said of customer reaction to the remodeling. Staff at the store was listed in the article and included Sheila Smith, Connie Lavergne, Jeff Bihm, Dona Roy, Vickie Leger, Virginia Bertrand, Greg Chretien, Yvette Aucoin, Patti Miler, Danny Vidrine, Kristy Thibodeaux, Duane Comeau.
