Steve Dischler, representing Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick, reported on the city audit. The city started its fiscal year on July 1 with $4.7 million in cash and another $300,000 due to is. The city managed to save about $1.3 million in the previous year. Dischler said the city was in good financial shape, but cautioned changing economic conditions in the coming year pose challenges.
A separate editorial by The Eunice News cited Mayor Bob Morris for fiscal prudence at City Hall.
Aimee Summerlin, St. Edmund development director, said negotiations were under way for construction of a new building on vacant lot across from the high school gymnasium.
LSUE Chancellor William Nunez said the campus is bracing for a 5- to 30-percent budget cut in the 2009-2010 school year. Nunez said about 80 percent of LSUE’s $14 million budget was tied to salaries.
