The reconstituted Eunice Economic Development Board asked for direction and funding from the city council. Dr. Tony Baltakis, professor at LSUE, was president of the group. Baltakis outlined several points that included: job creation; reduce the cost of doing business in Eunice; create a list of private and public land; build relationships with schools; and hire a full-time city director of tourism and marketing.
Sagging revenue was raising alarm at City Halll. Mayor Bob Morris and City Clerk Earlene LeJeune warned the city council that budget cuts were on the horizon in the next fiscal year. Morris said about 10 percent would be necessary. Sales tax revenues were down about 33 percent in January compared to the same period a year ago. Revenue was $331,000 below the same eight-month period. Gas revenue was down $92,000 in the first eight months of the fiscal year. One the spending side of the balance sheet, there had been a $1.2 million cut in the first eight months of the fiscal year.
The city council voted to ask the state Department of Transportation and Development to repair the bridge at Maple Avenue and Bobcat Drive. A new bridge was installed completed this year.
