The St. Landry Parish School Board received notice from the U.S. Department of Justice that it must consolidate schools and redraw attendance zones for the desegregation process. Federal Judge Tucker Melancon said he had reached the limit of his patience in regard to the St. Landry Parish desegregation. “We’re going to end this one of two ways — the people’s elected representatives are going to do it, or I am,” he said. The judge was giving the School Board four months to solve the issue that had been ongoing for 43 years. At a hearing, the judge ordered some elementary school principal changes.
A grand opening ceremony was held for a $800,000 new hangar at the Eunice Airport.
The Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum held a grand opening for a new addition. Among those performing at the opening were Beau Thomas, of Abbeville, Ann Savoy, of Eunice, and Robert LeBlanc, of Lafayette.
Yvonne Vasseur was chosen as the Para-professional of the Year, and Michelle Stelly was the Teacher of theYear at Glendale Elementary.
