Mayor Bob Morris and Police Chief Gary Fontenot were at odds over the police department’s budget. Morris proposed a 12 percent cut in funding the the police department. Fontenot said the cut would threaten public safety.
Cathleen Scott as awarded the LSUE Foundation Staff Excellence Award. Also honored was Debbie Leonards who was recognized for 35 years of service to the university. Leonards was administrative assistant to Arlene Tucker, vice chancellor for Business Affairs.
Eunice Rotary Club awards at the St. Edmund banquet were given to Brad Ortego and Callie Richard. Softball awards went to Adrienne Revierre, Anne-Marie Himel, Leah Andrus and Ashlyn Deville.
