Top ticket sellers at Eunice Elementary. Eunice Elementary recognized its top barbecue ticket fundraiser sellers. From left are Zachary Castille, Allie Dubroc, Caroline Vienne, Trevor Picard and Wesley Johnson. Johnson and Picard placed first and will be rewarded with a shopping trip with their principal. Johnson sold 205 tickets and Vienne sold 157 tickets. Dubroc sold 154 tickets and will be rewarded with $20 in cash; Picard sold 97 tickets and will receive $15; and Castille sold 75 tickets and will receive $10.
Checking system’s pulse. Fire Chief Wayne Lavergne uses a pipe wrench to open a cover on a fire hydrant on Maple Avenue this past week. He and Fire and Rescue member Richard Daigle, left, were opening the water flow for an insurance rating inspector. The Eunice Fire department was evaluated over a two-day period, hoping to lower its fire insurance rating at least one level.
Super Bowl helps fund clinic. United Community Health Clinic Director Yancy Fontenot received a check from Rotary Club President Willie Bergeron for $5,000, the proceeds from the club’s Super Bowl squares fundraiser. The clinic provides free health care and prescription medications for the working uninsured of the tri-parish area.
And they are off... And they are off, and not to the races. Highland Elementary’s Ashley Bourque’s second graders were off running to find Easter eggs Thursday.

Bill Thompson, left, was recognized at the April City Council meeting for his work “above and beyond the call of duty,” toward getting Eunice ready for the Clean City Contest. A certificate from Mayor Bob Morris, who was absent, was presented by Alderman at large Jack Burson. Mr. Bill received a standing ovation from those present.
