Flags for achievement. Six St. Landry Parish schools received flags at this month’s School Board meeting signifying Recognized Academic Growth, as measured in the accountability testing. Among those with their flags are Laura Lombas, Glendale Elementary administrative assistant; left, Mary Ellen Donatto, East Elementary principal; fourth from left; and Lakesha Miller, Eunice Jr. High School principal, fifth from left. It was announced that Glendale and East have been selected for the Ensuring Literacy for All Initiative grant for the upcoming year and that Eunice Elementary and Highland Elementary have been selected for the Ensuring Numeracy For All Initiative. Both programs are awaiting legislative funding.

Story Time at the library. StoryTime readings began Wednesday, June 3. The theme of the hour was “Once Upon A Time Kickoff”. Guest readers were, at left, Suzanne LaHaye and Debi Crawford. They took turns reading, “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude,” by Keith O’Malley, and “Dragon Scales and Willow Leaves,” by Terryl Givens. As an activity the children had the opportunity to make up their own story. They also received coloring sheets of a castle and dinosaur and a dragon sticker. The children enjoyed a snack of “Dragon Scales,” aka rippled potato chips. Door prizes of Dragon Tales coloring books were given.
