$20,000 for Eunice children. Blue Cross/Blue Shield representative Christie Reeves presents Angel Award winner Jean McManus with a $20,000 grant for Eunice’s Dolly Parton Imagination Liberary.
Students of the Month at Glendale Elementary. Glendale Elementary recognized its Students of the Month for November. A Thanksgiving Donation. The African American Student Alliance on the LSUE campus helped a family have a happy Thanksgiving. The organization held a food drive and provided the family with a turkey. Shown with the club is the Broussard family from Eunice, Jalayna Grains of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Chad Jones, LSU Eunice Institutional liason officer and AASA sponsor, Parish Councilman Jimmie Edwards and Jacqueline Lachapelle, AASA sponsor and LSU Eunice’s Financial Aid director.

Newest Fellows. Eunice Rotary Club President Christy Faulkner left recognized the club’s newest Paul Harris Fellowship recipients-Charles Brother Atchison, Willie Bergeron and Jason Smith. Paul Harris Fellowships are awarded to Rotarians who have donated $1,000 or more to Rotary Club International programs.
Fire strikes two houses. Investigation continues into the cause of a fire Thursday that destroyed a house on West Maple and damaged another. No one was hurt in the blaze thanks to quick action of an unknown passerby. Authories said passerby stopped and banged on the window of the burning house about 2 p.m. Corey Miller was asleep in the room and jumped through the window after being awakened. The fire started in the laundry washroom area. It jumped to the next door house which belonged to Miller’s grandfather the late Harry Miller Sr. who died earlier this week. More than 25 full time and volunteer firefighters responded to the fire call.
DARE graduation. More than 200 Eunice students, parents and teachers gathered at Skateland Thursday for the annual DARE graduation. DARE Officer Capt. Tim Ledee presented trophies to a number of special winners, including Sarah Jerkins, left, who was an overall special essay winner. Her teacher is Eltra Jordan.
