Workers at the Eunice Walmart Supercenter were busy preparing for the Aug. 16 grand opening. Robert Gaspard, store manager, said the store was a 177 prototype meaning it had 177,000 square feet.
The LA Heat, a 14-and-under PONY League team, was headed to national competition in Round Rock, Texas. Louise Johnson was the coach of the team players from St. Edmund.
Marcus Bellow and Carneleas Guillory, recent Eunice High School graduates, were traveling to LSU to play in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association All-Star Football game.
The Liberty Theater was receiving a facelift to repair damage from Hurricane Rita. The work was to cost about $25,000, according to Doug Cart, city clerk.
An audit found the St. Landry Parish Council’s expenses exceeded revenues by $623,000. Steve Moosa, CPA with Darnall, Sikes, Gardes and Frederick, delivered the report to the Council.
Knights of Columbus Council 1745 installed new officers. They included Paul Mouton, Richard Bertrand, Dr. Zeb Stearns, Levoy Dupre, Burke Sylvester, Gerald Manuel, Wallace Johnson, Charles Muffett, Nason Fuselier, Andrew Fuselier, Ed Dietz and Charles Manuel.
