Eunice News is Parish Council’s official journal

The St. Landry Parish Council voted 9-2 to name The Eunice News as its official journal for from July through June 2018.
After the meeting two Council members cited The Eunice News’ lower bid for their decision.
The Eunice News bid $4 a column inch compared to the Daily World’s bid of $5.60 per column inch.
Timmy Lejeune, District 11 member, said the Council has learned it has to watch its money and the Eunice News bid was 28 percent below the bid submitted by the Daily World.
Lejeune noted the Daily World has reduced its publication schedule from six to three days.
The Eunice News is published on Thursdays and Sundays.
Legal notices are available without charge on eunicetoday.com.
“I realized The Eunice News can provide as good of service at a discounted cost,” he said.
Harold Taylor, District 5 member, also cited the cost reduction in selecting The Eunice News.
Last year the Council spent about $15,000 on legal notices.
“If you apply the 28 percent discount you are talking about saving $4,500 a year,” he said.
In the past year the Parish Council has taken an increasingly close look at the parish government’s balance sheet.
“Nobody knew what the budget was about until we exposed that we had a problem,” he said.
The vote is a marked change from a year ago when the Council voted to retain the Daily World as its official journal on a 10-2 vote despite a lower bid from The Eunice News.
Last year only Eunice Council members Coby Clavier and Jimmie Red voted for The Eunice News as official journal.
Voting for the Eunice News Wednesday were Mildred Thierry, Taylor, Lejeune, Ken Marks, Vivian Olivier, Dexter Brown, Edwards, Clavier and Nancy Carriere.
Council member Alvin Stelly was absent.
Voting for the Daily World were Wayne Ardoin and Easton Shelvin.
