Eunice to party like its 1894

The details are far from complete, but Eunice is on the verge of a party to celebrate its 125th year.
Mayor Scott Fontenot said he hopes to have a committee put together in January to start planning the celebration.
Fontenot and Alderwoman Connie Thibodeaux are at the forefront of organizing the city’s birthday.
“I would like to the city to commemorate each deacde for each month as we go,” Fontenot said.
“We are still waiting to see if Experience Louisiana is going to go, then plan to collaborate the them,” he said of the Eunice Rotary Club’s October festival.
One event will be to open a time capsule buried during the event observing the city’s 100th year, he said.
Another capsule is to be buried for the city’s 150th anniversary in 2044, he said.
Fontenot invited anyone who wants to help with staging the 125th anniversary celebration to call the mayor’s office at 337-457-7389.
Thibodeaux has already organized an effort to have statue of Clovis Crawfish that highlights the series of books by Mary Alice Fontenot.
Clovis Crawfish books have been on sale at City Hall to raise money for the statue to be placed in front of the Eunice Depot Museum.
Thibodeaux asked that people submit old photos or other historical items to the mayor’s office.
