Eunice sales tax collections lag behind

Eunice sales tax collections continue to lag behind those of 2016, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
From January through July sales tax collections totaled $3,121,336, down 0.8 percent from the $3,147,369 collected in the same period in 2016.
Eunice sales tax collections in July were $448,314, down 1.7 percent compared to the $459,112 collected in July 2016.
A bright spot for Eunice sales tax collection is they rose $16,816 in July from June’s $431,498 — a 3.9 percent increase.
Total sales collections in St. Landry Parish are on the rise compared to 2016.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
Parish sales tax collections from January through July were $39,734,357, up 3.1 percent from the $38,526,535 collected in the same period in 2016.
Parish collections in July were $6,003,932, up 11.2 percent from June’s $5,401,414.
The July collections of $6,003,932 in the parish were up 1.2 percent from the $5,931,681 in July 2016.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
