Eunice sales tax revenues rose in the first two months of the year while collections in Opelousas and for the whole of St. Landry Parish declined, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board. Sales Tax Division.
Eunice had revenues of $956,270 for January and February, up 2.5 percent from the $932,962 collected in the same two months in 2017.
February revenue in Eunice was $383,871, up 0.3 percent from the $382,807 collected in February 2017.
Total sales tax revenue for St. Landry Parish from January and February was $11,280,388, down 5.5 percent from the $11,942,696 collected in the same period in 2017.
In February, parish sales tax collections totaled $4,724,384, down 4.8 percent from the February 2017 revenue of $4,965,172.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipalities.
January through February collections in Opelousas totaled $1,645,760, down 8.9 percent from the $1,806,699 collected in January and February 2017.
Opelousas revenues in February were $669,860, down 11.8 percent from the $759,363 collected in February 2017.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent. The rate is scheduled to decline to 4 percent in July.
