Eunice sales tax revenue up in October

Any slowdown from the coronavirus is gone in the October sales tax report from the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.
In Eunice, October collections totaled $594.775, up 28.7% over the October 2019 collection total of $462,284. The Eunice collections in October were up 22.3% from September.
The Eunice year-to-date total in October was $5,357,806, up $822,149 or 18.1% from the same 10-month period in 2019.
The Eunice sales tax numbers in the report for October were, $900,322, but had to be corrected by $305,546.60, according to the sales tax office. An Acadia Parish manufacturer’s tax was assigned to Eunice. The company has requested a refund.
The office attributes the increase in Eunice sales taxes to grocery store sales, fast food sales and hotel room rentals.
The sales tax numbers are gross collections.
In St. Landry Parish, total year-to-date collections through October were $64,777,664, up $5,715,789 or 9.7% over the same period in 2019.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities.
The total doesn’t include state sales taxes.
The October parish total was $7,481,386, which was up $1,420,969 or 23% from October 2019. The October parish total was up $1,595,246 or 27% from the September total.
In Opelousas, the 10-month total was $8,764,493, up $465,462 or 5.6% over the same period in 2019. The October total of $964,195 was up $122,040 or 14.5% over the September total and p 15.7% or $130,831 over the October 2019 total.
In Road District 1, where a 2% sales tax in unincorporated St. Landry Parish funds the Smooth Ride Home Program, year-to-date collections through October were $6,513,846, up $945,408 or 17% over the same period in 2019. The October collections of $747,704 were up $157,981 or 26.8% over the October 2019 collections and up $174,070 or 30% over the September collections.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55% parish tax rates that includes the 2% Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
