Eunice sales tax revenue is on the rise

Sales tax collections in Eunice through April are 0.8 percent above those tallied in the same four months in 2017, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Eunice sales tax collections through April totaled $1,835,179, up $15,512 from the same period a year ago.
Total sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish through April were $22,965,498, a 4.8 percent decrease from the $24,127,658 collected in the same four months in 2017.
Year-to-date collections in Opelousas were $3,365,327, down 6 percent from the $3,582,036 collected through April in 2017.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipalities.
The totals from the parish, Eunice and Opelousas rose sharply from March to April.
In Eunice, collections for April were $486,231, a 23.8 percent increase from March’s $392,6768.
In St. Landry Parish, collections for April were $6,783,548, 38 percent increase from the March total of $4,901,561.
In Opelousas, collections for April were $981,534, up 33 percent from March’s total of $738,034.
Comparing April to April collections:
— Eunice revenue dropped 3.4 percent from the $503,493 collected in April 2017.
— St. Landry Parish’s total revenue increased 5.1 percent from the $6,452,453 collected in April 2017.
— Opelousas revenue increased 0.7 percent from the $974,368 collected in April 2017.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent. The rate is scheduled to decline to 4 percent in July.
