Eunice sales tax revenues up a bit

Sales tax collections in Eunice eked out a slight increase through November compared to the same period in 2016, according to a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Year-to-date sales tax collections at the end of November were $4,855,095 comparedto $4,841,839 —a $14,066 increase.
Total St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through November were $61,124,611, which is a 1.9 percent increase from the $50,993,608 collected in the same period in 2016.
In October, total parish sales tax collections were running 2.2 percent — ahead of the 10-month period in 2016.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
In Opelousas, sales tax collections were $8,942 ,456 through November, up 1.56 percent from 2016’s $8,805,669.
Opelousas sales tax collections in November were $748,055, down 9 percent collections in October. The Opelousas collections in November were also down 2 percent from the November 2016 total.
In Eunice, the November total of $415,139 was down 3.2 percent from October and a 0.17 percent decrease compared to November 2016 collections.
St. Landry Parish sales tax collections in November were $4,995,309, down 10.6 percent from October’s collection and 1.4 percent from the $5,066,244 collected in November 2016.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
