Evangeline Parish voters pass 3 tax renewals

Despite a dismal voter turnout, all three tax renewals for Evangeline Parish that were on the ballot passed easily this past Saturday.
The parish wide property tax renewal of 10.35 mils for a period of ten years (with the purpose of giving additional support to the public elementary and secondary schools) passed with 86 percent of the vote, or 2,119 votes.
The residents in Consolidated School District No. 2 passed a renewal of 12.32 property millage for ten years (which is designed to help pay for maintenance, textbooks and instructional aids). That renewal passed with 87 percent of the vote, or 148 votes.
Basile residents meanwhile also passed a property tax renewal of 6.19 mils for a period of ten years (for the purpose of maintaining and operating Basile High School and W.W. Stewart Elementary School. That renewal passed with receiving 84 percent of the vote, or 1,898 votes.
Unofficial turnout for all three renewals ranged from 11.1 to 11.3 percent.
