The Experience Louisiana Festival returns for a third time on the LSUE campus and adds an Agriculture Village to its village-theme activities.
The festival begins at 9:45 a.m. Saturday near the Community Education Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Among those doing the honors for the ceremony will be Dr. Bobby Fletcher of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Dr. Boyd Pagett, regional director of the LSU AgCenter out of Alexandria.
Others to be present include LSUE Chancellor Kim Russell, Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot, Angela Rathle of the National Park Service, St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot and festival organizers.
The festival is a fundraiser for the Eunice Rotary Club, which is using the proceeds to fund a scholarship for an LSUE student.
After the ribbon-cutting the festival springs to life at 10 a.m.
Dwight Jodon, one of the Eunice Rotary Club festival organizers, said the Ag Village will have several hands on activities and a display of farm equipment.
“We are going to have some pretty impressive equipment out there,” he said.
Other features of the Ag Village include live animals, Smokey Bear, a demonstration by the Louisiana Dutch Oven Cooking Society and access to lawn and garden experts.
At 1:30 p.m. the Eunice Mardi Gras Association plans a mini-run.
A classic car and truck show begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to have more than 100 vehicles on display.
Saturday’s festival day ends with Rendezvous de Cajun Radio Show on the main stage featuring The Band Courtbouillon beginning at 6 p.m.
The festival reopens at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Among the activities Sunday is a noon Roman Catholic Latin Mass.
A complete schedule and other information about the festival are included in a special edition.
