The following are from the June 1976 files of The Eunice News.
A $41,5000 contract was announced for the construction and improvement of the boat launching ramp at the Eunice City Park Lake. The contract was awarded to R.P. Fontenot, of Eunice.
Kelly Boone, manager of Weill’s, announced the grand opening of the store’s Westgate Shopping Center location. Weill’s Department Store was established in Eunice 39 years ago at a downtown location.
Dr. J.J. Stagg was appointed health director of the St. Landry Parish Health Unit.
Glenn Laughlin was the new president of the Eunice Jaycees.
Michelle Summerlin was presented the best actress award at the third annual Eddy Award presentation held by the Stagecraft Players of St. Edmund High School. Fire Chief Ronald Moosa presented the award. Masters of ceremonies were Renee Verzwyvelt and Bob Reese.
The Eunice Boat Club was planning a party on June 4 at the club house at the City Lake Park. Officers of the club were Claude Courville, commodore; Dennis Hollier, vice commodore; Mrs. Claude Courville, secretary; and Mrs. Dennis Hollier, treasurer. Board members included Herman Guillory, Albert Langley, Myra Miller and Dr. Mervin Ardoin.
