The first positive COVID-19 case in Eunice was reported on Monday in a news release from Acadian Medical Center.
St. Landry Parish had its first reported death from the virus, also on Monday.
The number of cases in St. Landry Parish at noon Wednesday reported by the Louisiana Department of Health was 45, up from 15 cases at noon Monday.
The health department reported 6,424 cases in the state, 273 deaths, 1,498 people hospitalized and 490 patients on ventilation.
Positive cases are being reported from 60 of the 64 parishes.
On Monday, there were 4,025 cases in the state, 185 deaths in the state, 1,158 people in hospitals and 385 people are on ventilators.
A news release from the Acadian Medical Center stated, “We are currently notifying all caregivers and personnel who may have come in contact with this patient during their visit at Acadian Medical Center.”
Kevin Frank, Acadian Medical Center CEO, said on Wednesday the 42-bed hospital is continuing to test patients meeting Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
Frank did not say how many beds are filled at the hospital.
The state department of health said Wednesday’s cases represented a 23% increase since Tuesday.
The Department reported an additional 34 deaths since Tuesday.
The Department of Health has identified COVID-19 clusters in 47 long-term care facilities in the state. For context, there are a total of 436 nursing homes and adult residential care facilities in Louisiana.
Below is the current list of confirmed clusters. These facilities have been notified by the Department of Health.
A cluster is identified as two or more cases that appear to be connected.
“Because of the sheer volume of cases, we will be sharing the updated number of clusters every day at noon. We will rely on facilities for reporting on the most up-to-date information. The Department continues to work with facilities to minimize the spread of the illness and protect residents and staff.”
A cluster is considered cleared 28 days after the last positive test result.
