Francis says PSC order helps, but isn’t a free ride

While the Louisiana Public Service Commission’s order prohibits utilities from disconnecting services during the COVID-19 development, it is important for people to understand that such measures are to protect individuals in dire financial stress and to ensure public health and safety during this crisis.
Mike Francis, PSC chairman, said the public they should not stop paying utility bills if they have the means to keep current on payments.
Preventing disconnects does not mean that you will not owe for unpaid services after the order is lifted, he said.
“I have encouraged all utilities to work with those customers that are struggling to pay their bills, and I encourage you to also work with your utility. In a time like this, I’m asking everyone to be part of the solution in working together to keep Louisiana strong,”Francis stated in a news release.
