The Grand Opera House is excited to announce its 10th Season featuring Louisiana artists as well as others.
Wayne Toups Acoustic will kick off the season on Sept. 29. Wayne Toups Acoustic is an intimate and thrilling new way to see and hear all of your Toups favorites, like “Take My Hand, Tupelo Honey,” “Johnnie Can’t Dance” and more. This small acoustic band is a stripped-down version of Toups’s popular songs with a whole new feel, and no loss of urgency. Toups will be showing off his raw vocals and mesmerizing accordion skills played alongside gutsy guitar riffs, fiddle and harmonica. Embracing a spectrum of musical styles ranging from Cajun, blues, country and rock and roll, this show is not to be missed.
On Nov. 10, the Pine Leaf Boys, four-time Grammy nominees, will take the Grand’s stage. This band has a great reputation of linking the older generation with the younger generation by bringing awesome Cajun energy back into old Cajun music.
In a change of pace, on Feb. 2, 2018, the 1980s rock band Journey is saluted by Resurrection - A Journey Tribute. This program will feature one brilliant hit single after another, offering a perfect blend of songs to enthrall all levels of Journey fans.
The Cajun Accordion Kings, hosted by Steve Riley on March 3, 2018, will showcase many of the area’s top accordion players. Riley’s guests, all of whom have greatly influenced the music of Cajun country, have contributed to making our culture unlike any other.
Caesar closes out the “season performances.” This jazz singer, who sounds like Nat King Cole with his baritone voice, will serenade all on April 23, 2018. Caesar’s exquisite renditions of classic standards and love songs pulls the heart in and takes you back to the days of true romance.
In addition to the five season performances, two outstanding performances have been added. These “extra” performances are named “Grand Showcase Performances.”
For a third time, the ever popular Marc Broussard will perform on the stage of The Grand Opera House. He will be joined by his dad, Ted, who is an inductee in the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and a past member of The Boogie Kings. Marc and Ted Broussard will perform on Dec. 14.
On Jan. 26, 2018, Lost Bayou Ramblers will entertain the audience with their punk, psychedelic and hypnotic Cajun rhythms for which they are known. The Grammy nominees certainly bring a new twist and level of energy to the old Cajun music.
For families, the Grand Opera House provides The Family Series, which is graciously sponsored by Ted and Judy Carmichael and Family.
These three performances are 60 minutes in length and are great for all ages.
“The Amazing Max” will kick off The Family Series on Oct. 29. Known for his extraordinary skills as a magician and also for his ability to entertain adult audiences while keeping the little ones spellbound, Max combines magic and comedy, making objects appear and disappear and generally defying the laws of physics inches from theatergoers’ faces.
On March 12, 2018, “Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix” will have those in attendance “howling” in their seats as Johnny leads over a dozen dogs through challenging and hilarious tricks. You’ll definitely want to “sit and stay” for this show.
The Birmingham Children’s Theatre will present “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.” There will be two performances on Feb. 16, 2018. This timeless classic is produced by one of the nation’s oldest and largest professional theatres for young audiences. This show is great for those 6 and under.
