Harvey evacuees from Houston and other affected areas found refuge in Eunice.
Priscilla Miller, one of the managers at Days Inn, said 15 families from Beaumont, Port Arthur are staying at the hotel.
On Thursday, Miller said, “Some families left this morning to check on their homes. Other families are completely flooded at their homes.”
The displaced families room charges are paid by FEMA. “We provide courtesy free meals. Breakfast is free. Volunteers, some are individuals, others are churches provided chicken salad sandwiches for their lunches,” Miller said.
Miller added, “People have been so good to these families.”
The on-location manager at Days Inn is Misty Sehr.
Best Western’s on-location manager Stephanie Bergeron said that right after the hurricane she housed 17 displaced families, and currently she has 12 families staying there.
Bergeron said that most families are from the Houston areas. “Some families were evacuated. Other families have no water, no electricity. Four families here are basically homeless — they lost everything.”
Best Western provides free breakfast and other meals, lunches and evening meals, are provided by volunteers.
Bergeron added, “FEMA is their means of payment, free room. It’s amazing how many churches around this community have provided meals, and some have provided whatever is needed, whether it be toilettes, diapers, for each family.”
Holiday Inn Express front desk manager Lance Gaspard said the hotel housed 14 families after the hurricane. They currently have 10 families staying. “They are displaced families from Orange, Beaumont and Houston.”
Gaspard is also pleased with the amount of support from Eunice, “Churches, individuals, volunteers have supported these families in need, from sandwiches, and hot meals. It’s wonderful.”
