Thibodeaux is a native of Rayne. He retired from the railroad industry where he worked 44 years for Southern Pacific Railroad. One of his duties was riding trains over his assigned district, which was between New Orleans and Lafayette.
Over the years he collected numerous railroad stories and after he retired he began publishing many of them. Hidden History of Acadiana is his first book-published. His book consist of 22 chapters that are related to Acadiana. One story relates to “Recollections of War” which is about Charles Frederick, of Erath, and the places he served as an infantry soldier with the Confederacy. Another story is titled: “Claims from Southern Loyalists” which is about the thousands of claims for cotton, livestock, or other material worth millions of dollars that were either requisitioned, borrowed, or destroyed by Federal troops during the War Between the States.
Thibodeaux will share some of his stories at 1:30 p.m. at the Young-Sanders Center located at 701 Teche Drive, Franklin, one block away from the St. Mary Parish Court House. For additional information call 337-413-1861.
