State Treasurer John Schroder and Rep. Phillip DeVillier released a video regarding DeVillier’s proposed legislation to reform Louisiana’s capital outlay process, according to a news release from House Republican Delegation.
DeVillier’s bill, House Bill 122, would prohibit non-governmental organizations from receiving capital outlay funds. Doing so would save the state money to focus on priorities like transportation, drainage, and deferred maintenance.
Schroder said, “Our capital outlay system is broken. It doesn’t matter who the governor is, if you vote with the governor you get your project and if you go against the governor you don’t. Rep. DeVillier’s bill takes direct aim at that.”
“My bill will require Louisiana to fund important infrastructure needs over pet projects, begin to fix a corrupted capital outlay process, and put priorities over politics,” DeVillier said.
The bill passed the House of Representatives 66-28, and now heads to the Senate Committee on Revenue and Fiscal Affairs.
