Louisiana State Fire Marshal investigators are continuing to look into a fire Sunday morning that claimed the life of 2-year-old Sa’mya Leblanc.
Brant Thompson, deputy state fire marshal, said some details about the fire are not being released.
According to Eunice Police Department radio dispatch logs, the fire at 140 College Road was reported at 4:40 a.m.
By about 6:30 a.m. the fire marshal’s office took over the investigation.
Thompson said a father, Curtis Leblanc, the mother and four children were in the house when it caught fire.
Two adults, two teenagers and a 3-year-old escaped the fire.
“The family unit there is a 14-year-old young man, his 13-year-old sister and they are the children of Mr. Leblanc from a previous marriage. And, Mr. Leblanc and his current wife had the two toddlers there. The 2- and 3-year-old children.”
Thompson declined to say where the fire started or what started the fire.
Coinciding with the fire was the reported disappearance of 14-year-old Curtis Leblanc Jr.
Eunice Police reported on their Facebook page that Leblanc was last seen at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
On Monday morning, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said there was reason to be concerned about the missing juvenile because he was going through personal issues.
The juvenile was found safe Tuesday, police reported.
Thompson confirmed that the missing juvenile is the son of fire victim Curtis Leblanc.
