Lady Cats win on Senior Night

Eunice High celebrated Senior Night and sealed a tie for the District 4-4A championship as the Lady Bobcats rolled to a 17-0 win over LaGrange.

With a win on Monday over Washington Marion, the Lady Cats (20-5, 6-1) will be co-champions with North Vermilion (16-7, 7-1).

EHS will close the regular season this week with Westgate and Pine Prairie.

The Lady Cats are presently No. 8 in the Class 4-A power rankings with the playoff brackets to be announced on Friday.

Against LaGrange, senior pitcher Jailyn Pavich threw a perfect game as she struck out eight and did not allow a base runner in the four-inning, mercy-rule win.

Eunice exploded for nine runs in the first inning, aided by seven walks and four hit batters.

Alexis Ortego walked, Sophie Vidrine was hit by a pitch and Gabby Mitchell walked to load the bases.

Olivia Thibodeaux walked to score Ortego before McKenzie Guillory’s single drove in Vidrine.

Pavich drew a basesloaded walk to score Mitchell, while a free pass to Alissa Pate allowed Thibodeaux to score. Mallory O’Brien was

hit by a pitch that pushed courtesy runner Carli Boone in for a 5-0 Lady Cat lead.

Sydni Lemelle was hit by a pitch that allowed courtesy runner Raegan Fontenot to cross home plate.

Vidrine was hit by a pitch for the second time in the inning that allowed Pate to score as the Lady Cats led, 7-0.

Mitchell walked again that allowed O’Brien to score, while a free pass to Thibodeaux pushed in Lemelle for a 9-0 EHS advantage.

After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Cats surged for five runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Lemelle walked and scored on a double by Ortego, who scored on a double by Mitchell to push EHS ahead, 11-0.

Thibodeaux reached on an error and scored on a ground out by Pavich.

Guillory advanced on a LaGrange error that allowed Mitchell to cross home plate.

Courtesy runner Abbie Dupre stole second and scored when Pate reached on an error as the Lady Cats pushed ahead, 14-0.

Eunice sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Lemelle, Ortego and Trinity Ned all singled to load the bases.

Mitchell blasted a triple to center field to clear the bases and end the game.

The Lady Cats finished with eight hits and eight walks in the game.

Mitchell went 2-for-2 with two walks, five RBIs and two runs scored.

Ortego went 2-for-3 with a walk, 1 RBI and three runs scored.

Eunice 7, NVHS 6

MAURICE – The Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Eunice rallied for a 7-6 win over North Vermilion.

Eunice jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ortego doubled and scored on a hit by Mitchell.

North Vermilion tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Kennedy Simien singled and scored on a hit by Rani Meaux.

The Lady Patriots exploded for three runs in the bottom of the second to move ahead, 4-1.

Madie Broussard and Alyssa Akers both singled and Olivia Dupre was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Lexi Broussard reached on an error that allowed all three base runners to score.

Eunice closed the gap to 4-2 in the top of the fifth on Ortego’s solo home run over the right field fence.

The Lady Cats tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, begun when Thibodeaux reached on an error and scored on a hit by Pavich.

Courtesy runner O’Brien later scored on another North Vermilion miscue.

The Lady Pats retook the lead in the bottom of the inning on RBIs by Dupre and Broussard.

Trailing 6-4 heading into the seventh inning, the Lady Cats responded with three runs.

Ortego reached on an error and scored on a hit by Thibodeaux.

Pavich’s single pushed in Mitchell and Thibodeaux as the Lady Cats jumped ahead, 7-6.

Caroline Vienne earned the complete game win as she struck out two and allowed two earned two earned runs on 11 hits.

Ortego finished 3-for- 4 with 1 RBI and three runs scored.

Mitchell went 2-for- 4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Pavich finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Natalie Naomi (2-for-4), Rani Meaux (2-for-4, RBI) and Akers (2-for-3) had multiple hits for the Lady Patriots.

Akers suffered the loss as she struck out two, walked one and allowed eight hits.
