LCA holds off Blue Jays

Lafayette Christian Academy jumped out to a 6-0 lead but the Blue Jays battled before the Eagles earned a 7-4 win over St. Edmund.

LCA (22-2) scored a run in the top of the first when Brylan Green walked and crossed home plate on hit by Cael Zeringue.

The Eagles added three runs in the top of the second, begun as Hunter Lail reached on an error and scored when Grant Porche’s bunt was mishandled.

Cooper Martin walked, stole second and scored when Green reached on an error as LCA moved ahead, 3-0.

Zeringue and Daegan Mitchell were both hit by pitches to load the bases before Green scored on a hit by Miles Justin.

LCA added two runs in the top of the fourth, begun when Martin walked and scored on a ground out by Cowinn Helaire.

Green singled and scored on a sacrifice by Zeringue to push the Eagles ahead, 6-0.

The Blue Jays scored on a run in the bottom of the inning when Ian Dupre tripled to right field and courtesy runner Kaleb George advanced home on a hit by William Driggs.

St. Ed’s closed the gap to 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth when centerfielder Wesley Driggs walked and later stole home.

LCA added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Mitchell was hit by a pitch and scored on a passed ball.

The Blue Jays fought to the end as St. Ed’s scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to close the margin to three runs.

Henry Brown walked and scored on a hit by Daven Benoit.

Justin Landry reached on an error and later scored on another LCA miscue.

Luke Vidrine singled with two outs but the Jays could not push any more runs across.

St. Edmund (6-14) opens District 5-1A play at home on Wednesday against Opelousas Catholic (13-9).
