The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will conduct required lead removal at the Bodcau, Woodworth, Sherburne and Pearl River-Honey Island shooting ranges later this month and into October. Work at each shooting range will be coordinated to minimize impact to the public, however, some closures may be needed during the process.
The Sherburne Shooting Range will experience intermittent closures on the rifle and pistol ranges from Oct. 7-Oct. 11.
Planned work dates for each shooting range are as follows: Bodcau, Sept. 23-27; Woodworth, Sept. 30-Oct. 4; Sherburne, Oct. 7-11; Pearl River-Honey Island, Oct. 14-18.
Also the Sherburne range will be closed on Mondays beginning Sept. 30. This weekly closure is being implemented to facilitate routine maintenance of the ranges.
The range will continue to be open from sunrise to sunset, Tuesday through Sunday.
The Sherburne WMA Shooting Ranges are located at 1132 Sherburne Road near Lottie. From U.S. Highway 190, take Sherburne (Louisiana Highway 975) exit and drive south approximately 3 miles. From I-10, take Whiskey Bay exit and drive north approximately 13 miles on Louisiana Highway 975.
Range users are encouraged to contact their specific range directly for relevant closure information prior to visiting the range during these dates. To contact LDWF’s shooting ranges, go to wlf.louisiana.gov/hunting/shooting-ranges.
