The Louisiana Community and Technical College System announced that LSU Eunice would receive $162,000 from its Workforce Training Rapid Response Fund. The funding is in response to a grant request submitted by LSUE earlier this year.
LSUE’s Nursing Program Initiative will receive the $162,000 to support new and upgraded equipment and supplies.
Dr. Lisa Hawthorne, LSUE’s nursing program director, said, “The grant monies will be utilized to purchase equipment and supplies to permit students to simulate patient care with modern equipment in both the Eunice and Lafayette nursing labs.”
The program plans to purchase intravenous fluid and medication pumps, human patient simulators, cardiac training units, and updated stationary equipment. Supplies needed for training will also be purchased with the funds. Higher-cost items that have to be replaced every couple of years, such as wound training models, injection simulators, intravenous puncture arms, and assessment items, will be priority purchases.
The Workforce Training Rapid Response Fund was established by the Louisiana legislature to assist individuals in their ability to function in the workplace by including education directed at skill training, literacy, job readiness training, and vocational, technical, or constituent training.
LSU Eunice nursing program awards an associate degree in nursing and prepares students to become registered nurses. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and is taught on the Eunice campus and at Lafayette General Orthopaedic Hospital.
