LSUE speech and debate team wins

Five LSU Eunice students attended the Red River Swing Speech and Debate Tournament held in November on the campus of LSU Shreveport. Four members of the LSUE Speech and Debate team placed at the tournament. Placing in the Novice Debater category were Brock Berard of St. Martinville, Nicholas Elkins of Church Point, and Sydni Johnson of Opelousas. Holden White placed as a finalist in Prose and a finalist in poetry in the Novice Speaker category. White is from Kaplan. The Red River Tournament was Holden’s first tournament. Berard, Elkins, and Johnson had attended a previous tournament. The group was named Top Community College in the IE Sweepstakes. The Red River Swing Speech & Debate Tournament has over 600 students from schools like Texas Southern University, Lee College, Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana Tech, Drury University, Oklahoma Baptist University, and the University of Central Arkansas. This is the first year of the LSUE Speech and Debate team, and they are sponsored by LSUE instructor of business, Brittanny Walker.
