Volunteers from New Hope Fellowship were honored by Mayor Scott Fontenot at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
Fontenot said the church volunteers were everywhere as they did a day of community service.
Alderwoman Connie Thibodeaux said members of the Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club and Keep Eunice Beautiful joined in the day of service on April 27.
The church group had 42 projects going on in the city that involved more than 500 volunteers as part of the church mission to make a difference in people’s lives, said Jon Shows, a pastor at the church.
The day’s events included a car wash where the workers gave a $1 to those getting their vehicle cleaned and cleanup activities at most schools in Eunice.
The recognition came in meeting mostly dedicated to city business that included ordinance adoptions and introductions.
The Board approved scheduling a show cause hearing for property at 511-A Pearl Street. The city no longer identifies the owner of such properties despite their placement on the agenda for possible condemnation.
Bill Thompson, code enforcement officer, said the property on Pearl Street is “just a mess over there.”
