The Tee-Mamou Iota Folklife Festival and the Tee Mamou Mardi Gras have independently canceled 2021 events due to COVID-19.
The Folk Festival’s governing board and the Town of Iota worked together to reach the decision.
The festival coordinators explained, “Our concern is for the health of our citizens and everyone who helps make our festival happen is the first priority.”
Both groups hope to continue the Mardi Gras traditions in the year 2022.
The cancellations are among many this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
However, the Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras will take place.
Captain Pat Frey said the run will be limited to 150 participants.
The city-sponsored downtown celebration is canceled.
Other cancellations include the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association’s parades in Lafeyette, the Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras, Youngsville Parade; Carencro Parade; Scott Parade; Krewe des Chien Parade; Sunset Mardi Gras Parade; St. Martinville’s Newcomers Club Parade; Franklin Mardi Gras Parade; Krewe of Hephaestus Parade; Carnival D’Acadie; Rayne Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration; Loreauville Parade and Festivities; and New Iberia Parade. Parades in New Orleans have been canceled.
