Parish, city sales tax collections rebound

St. Landry Parish and Eunice sales tax collections posted increases in September, according to a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Eunice sales tax collections have been struggling to reach levels for the previous years, but the September report shows a turnaround.
Eunice sales tax collections from January through September were $4,011,965, up 1.1 percent or $45,130 from the same period in 2016.
That compares to January through August when sales tax collections were down 0.4 percent or $15,125 from the same period in 2016.
St. Landry Parish sales tax collections from January through September were $50,544,596, up $1,776,548 or 3.6 percent from the same period in 2016.
Eunice sales tax collections rose 15.9 percent from August to September’s $478,150.
And, compared to September 2016’s sales tax collections of $417,895, the current September collections were up 14.4 percent or $60,255.
St. Landry Parish’s September sales tax collections were $5,802,846, up 15.9 percent from the August total of $5,007,393.
St. Landry Parish’s total sales tax collections in September were $5,802,846, which is a 12.4 percent increase from September 2016’s $5,163,003.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
