St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot will face Parish Councilman Ken Marks in the Nov. 16 runoff election.
With 90 of 92 precincts reporting, Fontenot received 30% of the vote and Marks had 32%.
Total votes cast were 25,101 with the 90 of 92 precincts reporting.
Don Menard, who served two terms as parish president, received 21% of the vote.
Tanisha Bellard Wiltz received 17% of the vote.
Fontenot. Menard and Wiltz ran as Democrats. Marks ran as an independent.
Fontenot managed to win voter support for a 2% sales tax in rural St. Landry Parish to fund a Smooth Ride Home Program.
Marks stressed his experienced at Baker Hughes where he retired after 37 years. He has a degree in petroleum engineering.
Menard was the first parish president under the home rule charter government.
In Parish Council races with 90 of 92 precincts reporting:
District 2
Incumbent Nancy Carriere defeated challengers Angela Brooks-Roberson and Theresa Thibodeaux. Carriere had 50%.
District 3
Incumbent Easton Shelvin had 55% of the vote to defeat Elton “Cowboy” Sam Jr.
District 4
Incumbent Mildred Thierry defeated Russell Myers with 62% of the vote.
District 5
Incumbent Harold Taylor had 72% of vote to defeat Roy Harrington.
District 6
A runoff developed between Warren “Biscuit” Basco (38%) and Gil Savoy (41%). John Craig Burghdoff had 21%.
District 10
Incumbent Dexter Q. Brown had 62% of the vote to defeat Paula Jordan.
