Parish sales tax collections increase 4%

Total St. Landry Parish sales tax revenues rose 4 percent in August compared to the same month a year ago, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Parish revenues in August were $46.6 million, up 4 percent from August 2017 revenues.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities. The total does not include state collections.
Eunice year-to-date sales tax collections were $3.7 million up 5.8 percent from the same eight-month period in 2017.
Opelousas year-to-date sales tax collections were $6.6 million, down 0.5 percent from the same period in 2017.
The parish 2 percent Road District 1 tax that pays for the Smooth Ride Home program total $4.6 million in the first eight months of the year, up 5.3 percent from the same period in 2017.
The road tax is collected in unincorporated areas.
Eunice collections in August were $433,785, a 6.7 percent decrease from July collections, but a 5.3 percent increase over August 2017 collections.
Opelousas collections in August were $750,320, down 17.7 percent from July collections, but up 3.5 percent from the August 2017 collections.
The road district’s August revenue was $593,522, a 12.8 percent decreae from July collections and a 10 percent increase over August 2017 collections.
The parish total sales tax collections in August were $5.6 million, down 12.3 percent from July’s collections, but up 12 percent from the August 2017 collections.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.2 percent city and 3.55 percent parish.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.5 percent parish tax rates that includes the 2 percent Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
