Parish sales tax revenues rose 3.3% in year

Total St. Landry Parish sales tax revenue rose 3.3 percent from October 2017 to October 2018, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Through October, sales tax revenue totaled $58 million. The September sales tax total also reflected a 3.3 percent increase in the first nine months of the year.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities. The total does not include state collections.
The parish’s October to October comparison showed a 3.5 percent increase. From September, there was a 2.3 percent increase to $5,781,910.
Eunice sales tax revenues through October totaled $4,647,655, up 4.7 percent over the same period in 2017.
Eunice’s total for October was $449,393, up 4.8 percent from the October 2017 collections, but down 1.9 percent from September’s total.
Opelousas sales tax revenues through October totaled $8,147,047, down 0.6 percent from the same period in 2017.
October revenues in Opelousas were $821,501, down 13.6 percent from September’s total and off 0.3 percent from the October 2017 collections.
The parish 2 percent Road District 1 tax that pays for the Smooth Ride Home program totaled $5,811,049, a 4.6 percent increase over the 2017 collections tallied through October.
The road district’s October collections were $539,789, down 16 percent from September’s collections and off 9.8 percent from the October 2017 total.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.2 percent city and 3.55 percent parish.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55 percent parish tax rates that includes the 2 percent Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
