Police: Man took phone and smokes after ride refused

Eunice Police say an 18-year-old Mamou man asked a Eunice man for a ride, but ended up whacking the guy and taking his cigarettes and cell phone after being refused the transport.
As result, Vindezz Thibodeaux, of the 1000 block of Chestnut Street, Mamou, was arrested for second-degree robbery after the June 1 incident.
In an arrest warrant, the police officer stated he arrived to find a male victim in the 200 block of Eula Street.
The victim said he was there with a friend outside a residence, however when the friend went inside he was approached by Thibodeaux who asked for a ride.
The victim refused and Thibodeaux hit him on the left side his face, the affidavit stated.
The victim lost consciousness, but said it felt like he had been hit by a weapon due to the pain, the report stated.
The victim said a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and a Samsung cell phone were taken from him.
The victim’s friend told the officer she looked out the window to see the victim fall to ground and Thibodeaux clear his pockets. the report stated.
The witness did not see a weapon.
The friend ran outside and Thibodeaux fled, the report stated.
The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Thibodeaux landed in the St. Landy Parish Jail.
